NORTH BRANFORD, Connecticut, Thursday, January 14, 2021: Connecticut Rush East today announced the launch of their new United Women's Soccer (UWS) program. Connecticut Rush will enter into the East Conference for the 2021 campaign, adding a pro-am level within our player pathway pyramid. This program will provide elite level players the opportunity to continue their development through the UWS season, running May-July annually.
"We are so excited to be building the next step in our player pathway for girl’s and women’s soccer in Connecticut. The UWS has proven to be the best women’s league in the country for players looking to continue to grow as players during their college years and for those that have aspirations to play professionally", said Ed Greene, General Manager of Connecticut Rush. "Having a First Team will not only be great for our CT Rush club, but it will also directly benefit our younger players to have role models to look up to and emulate."
Connecticut Rush East launched its programming in 2012 with a skills clinic in Guilford, CT. Driven by the efforts of Greene, Greg Cumpstone, Director of Coaching, and our passionate coaches, the program has experienced exponential growth in the surrounding communities. It now boasts a comprehensive youth program, with 22 teams, based out of North Branford and Montville, CT. The Connecticut Rush women's program will be led by Brendan Faherty, Megan Burke, and Sarah Tompkins. The team will train at the Connecticut Sportsplex, tryouts will be announced at a later date.
"Northeast Rush is excited with the opportunity for our CT Rush team to play in the UWS, added Danielle Athanasiadis, President of Northeast Rush. "Bringing this high level of women's soccer to our community and organization is a positive step forward for the women's game.”
The addition of this pro-am program further continues the comprehensive player pathway that Northeast Rush and Connecticut Rush East offer to our communities. We strive to provide an appropriate playing opportunity from an introduction to soccer to elite level competition for college players, Rush alumni, professional and international stars.
“We are always looking for ways to provide additional pathways for players in Connecticut" states Craig Thomas, CEO of Northeast Rush. "Offering a women's team competing at such a high level is fantastic and something we are incredibly proud of. As we continue to be leaders in youth soccer, we can now add adult soccer to our repertoire."
